The upliftment of disadvantaged informal communities in South Africa includes the construction of "Incremental Services" in those areas. For this project completed in 2021, Ramtar Construction were involved with the construction of footpaths and retaining walls in an informal settlement, to allow residents to gain safe access to their dwellings. The conditions on the site included steep hillside with dangerous drop-offs and some areas were low lying with poor drainage.
Through careful collaboration with IX Engineers and the community, pathways were surveyed, retaining walls and stormwater infrastructure were installed, and a more convenient, safe method of access was constructed. Approximately 800m of paths, 760sqm of retaining walls and associated kerbs, drains and stormwater structures were constructed.
