Safe Concrete Retaining Block Wall Design and Construction

22/3/2011

Many property owners are under the misconception that a concrete retaining block wall (or CRB wall for short) is built with the retaining blocks as the only element in the design. This is a dangerous premise, and the following are some pointers on the elements that should be incorporated into a CRB retaining wall. (NB. These elements may vary according to the Engineer's Design)

In order to build a SAFE, STABLE, and DURABLE wall using concrete retaining blocks, the retaining wall must incorporate a FOUNDATION, DRAINAGE, SOIL REINFORCEMENT or STABILISATION, and SOIL FILTER layers. Further, it is a requirement (in South Africa) that all retaining walls higher than 1m must be DESIGNED BY A PROFESSIONAL CIVIL ENGINEER and constructed in accordance with the design.

Ramtar Construction is in the unique position to be able to offer you in-house design services included with our wall construction package. Our retaining walls are all designed by a Professional Civil Engineer and constructed in accordance with industry best practice. Use our contact page today and obtain a free quotation (subject to T&C).
