The construction of the Kingfisher and Francolin dams at Simbithi Eco Estate was completed on the 22 July 2011, just in time for another bout of heavy rain over the weekend that helped to fill the dams. Ramtar Construction lined both dams with Geosynthetic Clay Liners (GCLs), which is a specialist lining product.
After some set backs due to the unseasonally heavy rain storm we experienced in June, we are back on track with the lining installation to the dams at Simbithi Eco Estate. Below are some pictures of the lining installation.
Ramtar Construction has been appointed to construct the earthworks and dam linings for two ornamental dams at Simbithi Eco Estate. The project involves preparing and lining 4900 sq.m of dam floor area and will incorporate Geosynthetic Clay Liners (GCLs) as the barrier material. Commencement date: 20 April 2011.
Many property owners are under the misconception that a concrete retaining block wall (or CRB wall for short) is built with the retaining blocks as the only element in the design. This is a dangerous premise, and the following are some pointers on the elements that should be incorporated into a CRB retaining wall. (NB. These elements may vary according to the Engineer's Design)
In order to build a SAFE, STABLE, and DURABLE wall using concrete retaining blocks, the retaining wall must incorporate a FOUNDATION, DRAINAGE, SOIL REINFORCEMENT or STABILISATION, and SOIL FILTER layers. Further, it is a requirement (in South Africa) that all retaining walls higher than 1m must be DESIGNED BY A PROFESSIONAL CIVIL ENGINEER and constructed in accordance with the design. Ramtar Construction is in the unique position to be able to offer you in-house design services included with our wall construction package. Our retaining walls are all designed by a Professional Civil Engineer and constructed in accordance with industry best practice.
