The Buffelsdraai Landfill Lining Installation project began at the end of March and we are now passing the critical 'spine' of the cell. Ramtar Construction was contracted by Melki Civils and Plant Hire to install the Geosynthetic Clay Liners (GCLs) as well as supply and install the geotextile protection layer over the HDPE.

Challenges include coordination between 3 contractors working in the same space, as well as keeping a sharp eye on the sky as the GCL must not get wet in the rain and has to be covered pronto if there's a downpour - cricket pitch style!

With 31500 sqm to cover, we have found our rhythm and the team has come together nicely. Here's hoping for good weather in the next couple of weeks!

181 Beechgate Crescent - Subsoil Drainage

11/22/2013

Ramtar Construction were recently approached by ShreeProp, a large Durban based property development group, to install subsoil drainage in a new warehouse facility in the Southgate Business Park. The property was continually flooded with groundwater and a solution was needed to ensure that the layerworks for the pavements at the rear of the building would maintain their integrity. Ramtar Construction installed innovative flownet cut-off drains on the perimeter of the building and are currently installing a herringbone system of subsoil drains over the rest of the area. The rain over the past months has not helped and site conditions are challenging to say the least!

Construction of a "Loffelstein" type retaining wall in Panorama Park Estate, Winklespruit. The actual wall uses an equivalent approved retaining block called Terrace Bloks.

The retaining wall has been engineered for a 3.2m maximum design height and a minimum radius of 2m.

Challenges on this project include a constantly varying wall height and a small radius curve.
